June Sports, Alert Bay

Each year, the ‘Namgis First Nation hosts a soccer tournament over the June Fathers’ Day week-end. The tournament takes place on the beautiful, remote island of Alert Bay – a sixteen-hour drive from downtown Vancouver.

This year, the VSSL were lucky enough to receive an invite to this amazing tournament. We took a squad of twenty players and eight staff, and camped for four days. Although we didn’t manage to qualify for the knockout stages, the trip was a fantastic experience for all involved, and a wonderful chance to connect with the wider BC soccer community. Amongst others, the VSSL forged what promises to be a fruitful relationship with local soccer team the Baha’i Twin Arrows.
